The LIV Golf Series caused its fair share of controversy since its inception. The newest wave of golfers to join the Series has started with Bubba Watson– who signed with the Series just recently. The newly inaugurated Saudi backed Series is now on its third event, and in the limelight. The 43-year-old is still recovering from a knee injury, but is expected to make his LIV debut in September.
Watson will be an off course captain for the fourth event that is scheduled to be held in Boston. Currently ranked 86th in the world, Bubba has 14 PGA wins to his name, but has not been on course since the PGA Championship in May. “I couldn’t make this move without acknowledging that I am forever grateful for the opportunities provided to me through the PGA Tour,” Watson said according to BBC. However, as more and more golfers start to make the switch, Twitter had a lot of opinions about this particular move- and why they did not appreciate it.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of an exciting new concept in professional golf and seeing how it evolves,” said Watson after signing with the series. However, Twitter had a different viewpoint. People were initially quick to point out how Bubba was vocal about his Christian faith and the hypocrisy that came with when joining the Saudi series.

Other people were curious as to why he decided to join the Series, considering that he was quite well off already. However many people were also quick to say that he was not a big loss to the PGA Tour, seeing the current form he is in.
However, there was a small group of well wishers, who are excited to see the pro in action- even though he will not be playing all 2023.
“Bubba Watson is a tremendous addition to LIV Golf – another major champion joining the growing list of stars on our teams. His game combines the power, innovation, and excitement that the LIV Golf brand represents,” said LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman according to CBS Sports.
