BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — Prom isn't only for high school students, it can also be for senior citizens! Students at Timberline High School joined forces with the Dick Eardley Senior Center for a night to remember.
"We've been doing senior visits here every other Tuesday for about three months now and so this prom is kind of a celebration of all of our visits and the connections we've made with the seniors here," said Timberline High School student Olivia Lauber.
A new group of Timberland High Schoolers puts on the event every year to connect with local seniors. One senior says she looks forward to prom because of how much she gets to talk with the students.
"It's amazing to see how much we have in common, big age difference but high school problems, problems with families, very similar," said senior Constance Capobianco.
Prom night went from 6 pm to 9 pm Tuesday evening and had quite the itinerary!
"After the DJ finishes playing some his songs, we're going to do some line dancing, and then we're going to have a prom king and queen being crowned." said Lauber. "There's also bingo, ongoing, and different raffles throughout the night."
Lauber says she loves seeing how much the students and seniors enjoy one another's company.
"Being able to see everyone interact with the seniors that we've worked so hard to connect with really warms my heart," said Lauber.
All of the seniors CBS2 spoke with shared the sentiment that they love prom night and are thankful to the students at Timberline High School for organizing it each year. Everyone seemed to have a great time!
"I honestly wasn't expecting for it to be as fulfilling as it is," said Lauber. "I kind of thought it'd be a little bit slower but it's so lively and it's really fun to see all the seniors engaged."
