CALDWELL, Idaho (CBS2) — An animal hoarding case is stretching shelter and rescue groups thin in the Treasure Valley.
Volunteers were called to an abandoned mobile home in Caldwell on Tuesday. About a dozen frightened cats inside were in danger because the mobile home was being hauled to the Canyon County landfill.
Teams did their best to round up as many animals as possible before the home was taken away, and rescues continued once at the landfill.
Advocates warned that good-intentioned pet owners can quickly become overwhelmed if their animals are not fixed. Pam Lazenby was there helping round up the abandoned felines.
"We just want to promote spaying and neutering. There are many groups locally. SNIP Spay Neuter Idaho Pets, Idaho Humane Society, Pet Haven," Pam said. She adds these places can help and educate people. One litter of six kittens can turn into thousands within a few years.
The animal advocacy group Treasure Valley Cat Angels is now taking the lead and could use funds for veterinary needs, foster families are also needed. CBS2 is told the cats are thin and some are in need of urgent veterinary care.
If you want to donate, foster or adopt a new furry family member, go to Facebook and search for Treasure Valley Cat Angels.
A GoFundMe was created to raise funds to help the rescues.
