Facing the harsh reality of societal stigma, Strella sought counsel from an academic advisor and ultimately decided to withdraw from the programme.

Despite efforts to gain insight from Strella’s classmates, none responded to requests from the media for comment, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding the issue. Lutheran-affiliated Lenoir-Rhyne University clarified that while they have no specific policy against digital sex work, they maintain a strict stance against bullying.

In a statement to The Washington Post, a university spokesperson emphasised their commitment to fostering a respectful environment and encouraged Strella to voice her concerns to university leadership. However, Strella expressed disillusionment, citing her advisor’s guidance to withdraw from the program.

Reflecting on her experience, Strella lamented feeling marginalised and pitied for her involvement in sex work, a sentiment exacerbated by unwelcome attention from classmates. As her online presence flourished, eclipsing her prospects as a licensed occupational therapist, Strella’s financial fortunes underwent a remarkable transformation.

From meagre earnings of $11.18 a month upon opening her OnlyFans account in February 2020, Strella’s income skyrocketed to over $300,000 in 2021. She was propelled by viral TikToks offering discounts to veterans and a feature in Military Times.
